Over the past few days we’ve been digesting the Lancashire Digital Economy Report 2021 published last week during the Lancashire Innovation Festival. This showcases our thriving tech industry in Lancashire and really shows particular activity around the Lancaster district and Morecambe Bay area. The author Mickledore highlights that Lancashire’s technology economy has grown by 28 per cent over the past five years and that it is expected to grow three times faster than the county’s overall economic growth between now and 2028.
Milliamp Technologies has been central to efforts over the past few years helping policymakers understand ElecTech and the opportunities it presents the region. This includes helping establish Tech Lancaster, engagement with local Councils, Lancashire LEP, InnovateUK and BEIS to help shine a light on our vibrant technology innovation landscape around Morecambe Bay. In Lancashire, Digital and Tech businesses contribute over £1bn to the regional economy, and they are also fuelling nearby industries in areas such as Greater Manchester and Merseyside.
Rich Grant, Managing Director of Milliamp is quoted in the report as saying:
“We’re seeing many companies based around Morecambe Bay developing and deploying next generation electech technologies which increasingly underpin key growth sectors such as Future Mobility, MarineTech, CleanTech, Aerospace and advanced manufacturing.
“Such leading-edge, proprietary and deep tech solutions are also helping these and other sectors transition to a low carbon economy, creating jobs and attracting investment along the way, which is bringing benefits to Lancashire’s entire tech supply chain.”
